Traverse

Rendering infrastructure beyond our own renderer.

Traverse’s gpu-allocator is used in Firefox. Explore the graphics, shader, asset and platform tools we create and help maintain.

In Firefox

gpu-allocator is used in Firefox’s graphics dependency stack. Mozilla’s source tree vendors the crate, and its wgpu-hal integration declares gpu-allocator as a dependency for native graphics backends. The vendored package identifies Traverse Research as its author.

Infrastructure built for rendering research now supports graphics in one of the world’s most widely used browsers.

Created, adopted and developed by Traverse

Our open-source work spans GPU allocation, shader compilation, asset formats, platform support and profiling. Some projects originate with Traverse; others are adopted projects or maintained forks. The distinction is included below.

Contributions across the stack

We contribute to arboard, parking_lot, glam, winapi-rs, rspirv and ispc-texcomp. Our work also spans shader compilers, SPIR-V tools, RenderDoc, platform metadata, rust-gpu and Rust UI/rendering infrastructure.

These libraries and tools support the systems around a renderer as well as the renderer itself. Explore our GitHub organisation for the code and ongoing development.

Khronos and graphics standards

Traverse is a Khronos member and participates in the Vulkan/SPIR working-group community. Our team’s experience includes contributions to the Vulkan ray-tracing specification, alongside the Vulkan infrastructure we help maintain through ash and gpu-allocator.
